Saakumu Dance Troupe is one of the leading traditional/contemporary dance and music groups of Ghana, with a repertoire that includes a range of spiritual, ceremonial, and recreational genres accompanied by contemporary African dance forms. Their music and dance is joyful, expressive, and highly participatory. Director Bernard Woma is leading the talented group of dancers and musicians on tour this spring. He is world-renowned for his unmatchable skills on the gyil, a xylophone from the Dagara region of Northern Ghana.
Following their performance will be New Primitives, a local band who “explores popular music through high-energy Rhythm & Blues, Ska, Reggae, Calypso, and World Dance Music”.
