African Designers Represent at the New York Fashion Week

by Nelima

It could be the ‘Obama Effect or just pure coincidence that for the first time African designers were accorded a night to showcase their designs at the New York Fashion Week. At the African Fashion Collective,  models strutted the catwalk in African-themed collections by African designers Xuly Bet, Stoned Cherrie, MOMO and Tiffany Amber. Also featured was a collection of Obama-themed prints. The event was jointly sponsored by Nigeria’s This Day Newspaper and Arise Magazine launched by This Day last year. The event was covered by Essence Magazine.

Also expected to be huge is the Fashion Week After Party, by The Macdella Cooper Foundation (MCF), whose  proceeds will benefit the MCF Academy in Liberia for orphans and abandoned children.
