The SomaliCARES project is now hiring a project coordinator.
The HR category states “Research Study Coordinator” but this is NOT a study, but an implementation project to offer Somali women language & culturally-appropriate group prenatal care based on the CenteringPregnancy model. With an increase in gestational diabetes and preterm birth among Somali women, we’ll address these risk factors along with creating increased social support and reduce post-partum depression (we hope!). Note that applicants must be bilingual in Somali and English. We anticipate that all women will not need an interpreter, but want to have the coordinator able to converse with all participants.
The position is .2 FTE (1 day per week) but is flexible. In other words, there will be weeks where no activity will be required, and other weeks where 16 hours or more may be necessary depending on the needs of the program. The early months will include training in the Centering program with travel expenses included in the grant, getting out into the community to let women know the program is available, talking to women who are in the early stages of pregnancy already coming to the clinic, etc. The rest of the 2 year grant will include participating in the monthly 2-hours classes to assist women with education and other class activities as part of program implementation.
